As I previously discussed on Trini Trent TV, Nicki Minaj has announced plans for a new sitcom about her life. The news caused moderate excitement on social media but when her good friend Ellen Degeneres recently made a spoof about it, Black Twitter was outraged.
The Ellen Degeneres Show portrayal of the Minaj family all having big butts was blasted by people across the web for supposed body-shaming of black women. The good folks at Gawker even referred to it as a form of minstrelsy.
Yet, was the comedy sketch as bad as it seemed?
Adding to tensions were recent comments made by Raven-Symoné, who said she would never hire someone with one of the top 60 ghetto black names. The View co-host faced so much pressure that she was forced to issue a statement to apologise.
I don’t think the fever toward Degeneres and Symone was fully justified. Watch Trini Trent TV to find out why.
