The 2015 BET Awards dominated social media conversation last night but did the show live up to the hype? Sadly, it did not.
In addition to several delays and poorly scripted dialogue, the BET Awards felt more like an extended marathon than an exciting ceremony geared toward a young audience. That’s why no one should be shocked that the ratings slipped by 1.4 million viewers compared to last year.
However, there were a few notable moments worth discussing, for better or worse.
The Bad Boy Records reunion took us back to a time when hip-hop music was fun yet cleverly worded. Even better was a not-so-surprising appearance by Lil Kim, who got the largest crowd response of the night.
Other artists who joined forces for an ode to the past included Tinashe, Jason Derulo and Ciara. The trio paid tribute to Janet Jackson, who probably should have done it herself because they clearly weren’t up to the task.
The night was capped off by Tamar Braxton and K. Michelle singing alongside Patti LaBelle. I won’t say much more except this: Struggle face.
