After months of buildup and excitement, the 2015 Carnival celebrations in Trinidad have ended. Now, before locals put the season fully behind them as they adjust to Lent, it is a great time to take one final look back.

Many people from outside the Caribbean assume Trinidad festival only involves the Parade of the Bands on Carnival Monday and Tuesday. However, the season actually encompasses the months, and comprises several events.

Traditional mas presentations, the Panorama steel pan competition, Soca Monarch, Calypso Monarch, J’Ouvert, Dimanche Gras, Kiddies Carnival, and the King and Queen of the Bands competition – these are just a few of the many shows that separate Trinidad’s Carnival from similar festivals around the world.

Carnival features  more than the bikinis, beads and feathers worn by people as they dance on the streets to the sounds of Soca music. Hopefully, these 21 pictures from this year’s season will showcase more than those less imaginative costumes commonly associated with greatest show on Earth.
