“I’m talking to the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways.” – ‘Man in the Mirror’ by Michael Jackson

Unfortunately, when Michael Jackson sang those lyrics he forgot indicate that they also target women. So, in some way, the pointless feud between Lil Kim and Azealia Banks that has set female Hip-Hop back yet again is his fault.

Banks had expressed excitement about working with Kim earlier this year but later claimed that her idol was far from inviting when it was time to record their track. However, the latter’s team, which is now seasoned to handle beef thanks to her two-year war against Nicki Minaj, quickly issued the following presse statement:

Earlier today a press release went out making a claim that there was friction between Hip Hop Icon “Lil Kim” and aspiring hip artist Azealia Banks. The release comes as a surprise to our team, being that my client and azealia have NEVER spoke to one another or met AT ALL.

Kim was actually very flattered Azealia’s public admiration for her, which is why it’s so hard to understand how someone who claims to be a true Lil Kim fan could flip the script so easily on someone who was supposedly their idol. It is also VERY interesting that NO ONE from her team made any attempts to reach out to anyone from our team to voice any concerns or problems that they may have had.

I have NEVER heard of anyone having a conflict with someone they have NEVER met with or personally spoke with. We have no idea what they are referencing and have no desire to discuss the matter any further as there is nothing to talk about. It honestly seems that someone from Azealia’s team would rather have her fans buy into manufactured drama instead of buying music.

Kim knows nothing of any beef, and furthermore has had nothing but nice things to say about her. We don’t know what this is and will not address this any further. It seems that this is another sad attempt by someone trying to use my client for publicity. We wish her nothing but the best.

Following the release of this press statement, Banks launched into a tantrum via her Twitter page and issued the following remarks:

    AZEALIABANKS
Okay so true tea is that Lil Kim got mad that I wrote a verse for her on a record I wanted her on.

    AZEALIABANKS
Everyone knows Lil Kim doesn’t write her own raps and I saw this as a faster more efficient way of getting the track done.
    5/6/12 10:37 AM

    AZEALIABANKS
She then had her assistant write me some long ass offensive email about how Lil Kim writes her own raps and doesn’t need anyone’s help.
    5/6/12 10:38 AM

    AZEALIABANKS
So….. My question was and is still… IS SHE DOING THE TRACK?
    5/6/12 10:39 AM
    AZEALIABANKS
Who cares about what you use to do…. WILL YOU DO THE TRACK??!
    5/6/12 10:39 AM
    AZEALIABANKS
All this extra shit is stupid. Keep closing your own doors ma. @lilkim

    AZEALIABANKS
@LilKim you DO know that YOUR management where the ones who said u needed us to write a reference verse in the first place .. Right?
    5/6/12 11:01 AM
    AZEALIABANKS

    5/6/12 11:10 AM
    AZEALIABANKS
Oh well … I’m still gonna steal all of her outfits & hairstyles … ‘cept I’m gonna keep all the credit and not involve her in any of it.

What exactly is the purpose of this nonsensical feud? Regardless of who is right or wrong, Banks has yet to release her debut album so she is basically a nonentity in the music industry. As a result, she is only upsetting established artists and their fans who would have eagerly supported her work.

This type of pointless chaos is why women can’t thrive in Hip-Hop. As they continue to bicker, then men enjoy the confusion and maintain their positions of dominance. My advice to these ladies? Be quiet, focus on making quality material and if they need to address beef then to it on a track so that way they could at least make money.

    Thoughts?

Lauryn…come back and show these girls who is the real Queen.

    • The Truth

      Agreed Trent!

Sit down somewhere until you bring something to the table Azealia smh

    • Tahj M.

Lauryn, Eve. That’s all we need.

    • Kim hasn’t said a word, her management has. That ew bitch is thirsty.

    • TheTruth

      Loving the wording-
“claim that there was friction between Hip Hop Icon “Lil Kim” and aspiring hip artist Azealia Banks.”
SHADE ‘aspiring hip artist’ but her music is 100x better than Kim’s ‘If You Love Me’ tbh

” It seems that this is another sad attempt by someone trying to use my client for publicity.”
OH PLEASE, is Kim even on any music chart right now?

Azealia just doesn’t know when to shut up and that will inevitably tarnish her career before it starts. Iggy, Nicki and now Kim? Does she want to pay her rent?

    • Ugh

I’m was already not feeling this chick. Although i’m not a Lil Kim fan this twitter is a bad look on Banks. she is basically and unknown. she’ll end up just like that girl Keys a distant memory.

    • AM!R

Azealia is like 12 years old….what do you expect from children?

    • dada

I said it before and I’ll say it again… her mouth will be the death of her career.

    • Cliff

funny how Kim hasn’t even responded yet, they haven’t even met. smh

    • latifa

omg that giff! dead!!! was just watching that episode aswell!

    • x

It’s funny how Azealia said “Keep closing your own doors ma” when that’s exactly what she’s doing to herself. I like her but she has been really turning me off lately.

    • pisces2g

I think Azaelia does have a big mouth, but so do allot of males in hip hop, Azaelia doesn’t need features especially from washed ups, hell she can sing the hook and rap he verses, do ur thing Banks… Lil Kim should have just took the work

    • kingphoenix

Women can’t “thrive” in hip-hop because its misogynistic…I mean really how many male beefs have their been in the rap game…ppl really need to look at their gender biases and correct themselves

    • LauraDior

Azaelia talks shit and so does every other damn guy and female in the hip-hop industry.

I like Kim && Azaelia, but Kim should not be picky, get attitude, or diss anyone who she works with and has more buzz than her because she is no where to be seen on the charts and radio.

No shade but Kim needs to try to be on every damn song or feature that comes here way. LOL!

    • Kevin

Y’ll are mad at Nicki for playing off Kim? CH.

    • Azealia Banks please take a \__

    • DOMOdotSCORE

I’m so tired of everybody fighting their battles in public. Whatever happened to dealing with quarrels in private? No one needed to know that there was some friction going on.

    • Notoriousbarb

A mess. Ive never heard of this Azaelia chick

    • theman4u

what exactly did kim do wrong in this scenario?

    • MmmHmm

AZEALIA BANKS SOUNDS THIRSTY AF!!! LOL LOOK AT HER TWEETS, SHE STILL IS SO DESPERATE TO HAVE KIM ON HER TRACK…SMH!!! IM GLAD KIM HASNT RESPONDED…MEANWHILE I WONDER HOW MISSY ELLIOTT FEELS ABOUT ALL OF THIS? THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO COLLAB & I DOUBT MISSY WOULD LET AB GET AWAY WITH THAT!
