Quote Of The Day: Mary J. Blige Upset By Oscar Omission

Mary J. Blige was beaten by Madonna in the race for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and disappointment has struck her again. This time, however, the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul didn’t even get a chance to compete as her tune ‘The Living Proof’ from ‘The Help’ was completely omitted from the 2012 Academy Awards.

Instead of the usual minimum of four listed nods, only two songs were nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards – Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown’s ‘Real in Rio’ from ‘Rio’ and Bret McKenzie’s ‘Man or Muppet’ from ‘The Muppets’. Interestingly, Madonna’s Golden Globe-winning ‘Masterpiece’ was also snubbed by the Academy.

Blige didn’t accept this news quietly, though, and she ventured to Twitter to voice her frustrations. Read what she had to say below shortly before she started retweeting encouraging words from her fans:

I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…….

Well, there must have been a rule that prevented Blige and Madonna from being nominated because it is rare that only two songs are nominated in that field. As Blige knows from her tumultuous life, disappointment happens.

    Thoughts?

Mary could of been nominated she was on the short list of possible grammy noms. Madonna wasn’t even on the short list because the song was not in any particular scene of the movie. They snubbed Mary for no reason. Not many black people get nominated for this category anyway. Three 6 Mafia, Janet Jackson, not many.

    • FUCK THAT… Who has seen Madonna’s movie? Where the hell are these nominations coming from?

      P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S.

Madonna and MJB are still queens!

    • MJB

Mary J. Blige was totally robbed

    • Madonna wasn’t nominated because the song starts 2 minutes after the end credits began and the rules say the latest a song can start is the start of the end credits, it’s pretty dumb tbh.
Also i do think Mary should have got a nom, especially if they only bothered to nominate two songs SMH.

    • @RONNALDMATTERS.COM what does the ammount of people who’ve seen a film have to do with the quality of it or it’s music?

    • Cliff

thats messed up, she should have been nominated !

I think that regardless of who got nominated and who didn’t, I want to know why only two songs are in the running. I find it a bit weird but whatever.
