Burning Up is back and better than ever! Breathing new life into our special feature is an artist with the kind of talent that demands attention; the latest British songbird to enter the spotlight, the breathtaking Emeli Sande.
Gaining notoriety for her songwriting ability, Sande has collaborated with Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Cher Lloyd. In fact, her composition skills were so impressive that Simon Cowell declared that she is currently his favourite songwriter and now that she is finally preparing for the release of her own debut album, ‘Our Version of Events’, on February 13th in the UK, the anticipation for her material is at a new peak.
So what is all the fuss about? Watch Sande perform her debut single, ‘Heaven’, and ‘Next to Me’ on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’ below:
‘Next to Me’
It is ironic that Sande has worked with Leona Lewis because they have strikingly similar tones. Yet, Sande has what Lewis lacks – personality. Her music is passionate, raw, exciting and fresh, and everything is brought to life by her technical yet soulful singing.
It is very rare that a new artist with an actual understanding of music emerges in the industry but similar to Jessie J in 2011, Sande has proven that there is still talent to be found on the radio. Hopefully, she will transition into the US market and across the globe because she is truly a phenomenal artist!
